Cebu Pacific teams up with Scholars of Sustenance to decrease food wastage

Cebu Pacific (CEB) recently inked an agreement with food security advocacy Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) to decrease food wastage and provide essential food supplies to social service organisations and vulnerable communities.

Under the stipulations of the agreement, CEB will donate surplus food from its operations to SOS. This underscores the airline’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.

CEB vice-president for customer service operations Lei Apostol said: “This collaboration shows our dedication to community care. By partnering with SOS Philippines, we are not only addressing food waste but also making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.”

For his part, SOS Philippines food rescue supervisor Mac Edsel Florendo said: “We’re excited to partner with Cebu Pacific. Their support boosts our ability to rescue surplus food and provide it to those in need. Together, we can make a significant impact in the fight against food waste and hunger.”

Currently CEB is SOS’ first and only airline partner in Southeast Asia. Together, both entities aim to promote the importance of managing surplus food effectively, aligning with global sustainability goals and setting a positive example for the aviation industry.

A long-standing commitment

Prior to signing this agreement, CEB already had a longstanding history of donating food to underserved communities.

Since 2017, the airline has provided pastries for the Pangarap Foundation, an organisation focused on improving youth welfare.

The airline’s new collaboration with SOS, a leading non-profit in food rescue efforts, will broaden CEB’s impact and assist even more individuals in need.
